Amazon Prime Day 2017: the best deals and when they go live

We’ve made it to July, which means it’s time once more for the now-annual Amazon Prime Day. The mid-year mini-Black Friday deals extravaganza has been running since 2015 and should see a decent set of products with nice discounts.

Wait, what is Prime Day?

For those of you who have not been keeping up with Amazon’s site-specific price cut bonanza, here’s what you need to know. Originating as a 20th-anniversary celebration, Prime Day marks the anniversary of Amazon as a company and the site celebrates with a whole host of discounts and special offers, all available for one day only.

Think of it as a practice run for Black Friday – Amazon has time-limited offers available for a very short time and while stock lasts and doesn’t make a habit of letting the public know what the deals will be before the event kicks off in earnest. The quicker you can be when you find a deal you want to buy, the better.  Deals are usually on a wide variety of products – everything from games and computers to washing machines and pet fountains.

When is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day 2017 will take place on Tuesday, July 11th. That said, Amazon is kicking the celebrations off a little early and the deals will actually go live a few hours before Tuesday. You’ll be able to get your hands on all those discounts from

You’ll be able to get your hands on all those discounts from 6 pm Monday 10th July on Amazon UK or 9 PM ET on Amazon.com. If you like, you’ll be able to watch the deals before they go live on July 9th.

You can find more information on the deals themselves over at the Prime Early Access deals page.

Do I need to be an Amazon Prime member?

Yes, you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber in order to take advantage of any of the discounts on offer on Prime Day. Although, if you’re a complete newcomer to Prime as a service, you can sign up for a free trial just before Prime Day and it’ll still count for when you want to buy something on Prime Day.

If you did happen to want to check out Prime for reals, you can head over to the Prime sign-up page on Amazon UK or Amazon US and do just that – a membership will cost you £79/$99 for a year or £7.99/$10.99 a month and includes free one-day shipping, access to Amazon Prime’s streaming service and full access to the newly unveiled Twitch Prime service.

Plus, that Twitch Prime account (if you sign up before August 20th, 2017) will get you a free in-game loot box for Overwatch which will guarantee you at least one legendary item.

If you’re a student, you can sign up for a six-month free trial of Prime and get a 50% discount on a membership when the trial expires.
