In the meantime, while we all collectively wait for this year’s Black Friday madness to begin, we can take a look back at what Black Friday really is.

What kind of stuff gets discounted on Black Friday 2018?

Black Friday, for retailers, is a chance to discount and clear stock. This means you’ll see everything from high-end electronics, to small everyday household items being put up on offer. That’s not to say all discounts are created equal, however. The places you’ll see the deepest price cuts and the best deals is on electronics, gadgets, gaming and computer equipment. As these are generally seen as luxury items, the public tends to wait for an opportunity like Black Friday before indulging themselves, and putting their money down.

Last year’s Black Friday event happened to take place not long after the release of the Xbox One X, so discounts on that machine were few and far between. We expect an increase this year naturally now that the console has had chance to settle in and more people have gotten 4K televisions, but also expect to see a fair few deals on Xbox One S console bundles too.

How to prepare for Black Friday 2018?

Ideally, before Black Friday 2018 itself rolls up, you’ll have a good idea of what you want in your head already. This means, if you know you’re after an Xbox One, you should figure out if you’re after the older Xbox One S – or perhaps you want the shiny 4K goodness afforded by the Xbox One X console. Having a clear idea of what you want before heading into the day itself will save you valuable time and help get you ahead of the queue for the products you actually want, rather than getting lost in a sea of choices (and missing out as they are snapped up).

Having said that, make sure your ideal purchase isn’t altogether too specific, since the nature of Black Friday means things tend to sell out within a very short time span (think of a short time span, than cut it in half, that’s how rapidly things disappear). You may find the perfect bundle, but it may sell out before you get through the checkout system. In this case, make sure your ideal purchase leaves some wiggle room. Maybe you’re not concerned whether your console is white or black, maybe you don’t mind whether it’s a 500GB model or a 1TB. Anything that can give you a backup plan if things don’t go quite to plan…
