Amazon announces the Fire TV Cube and pre-orders are now live

Amazon has announced the Fire TV Cube – a brand-new 4K Ultra HD streaming media player.

It’s stated to be the most powerful and advanced Fire TV yet, with compatibility across multiple TVs, soundbars and A/V receivers from the most popular brands. You can also use it to tune in to live TV channels with supported satellite providers such as Sky. Of course, streaming apps such as Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, ITV Hub, All 4, Curzon and more are all supported.

It comes with all the usual voice control features, too. And with the built-in speaker, you can also ask Alexa to perform many different tasks such as check the weather, turn off compatible lights and even turn on the TV. Hands-free entertainment is what Amazon promises.

In the world of streaming media players, the Fire TV Cube looks like the next big step up from Amazon. Undoubtedly feature-rich, it also offers support for Dolby Vision and HDR, HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos. To make things even more inter-connected, you can pair it with your Ring Video Doorbell to view live camera feeds directly on your TV.

Lastly, in a move that will appease some who are fearful of filling their homes with listening devices, you can electronically disconnect the microphones on the Fire TV Cube with a simple press of a button.

The Fire TV Cube is scheduled for release on 10th October. You can pre-order it now in the UK for £109.99 or in the US for $119.99. The package also includes an Alexa Voice Remote, Ethernet adaptor, IR extender cable and power adaptor. Yeah, that sounds about enough stuff.

Additionally, Amazon has confirmed it will be bringing the range of JVC Fire TV Edition Smart 4K LED TVs to the UK later this year with a trio of 40″, 49″ and 55″ models. These have already been available in the US for some time with the Fire TV OS built-in. You can register your interest to be the first to know when they go on sale right here.

Black Friday is just a couple of months away too, so it’ll be interesting to see if these are discounted as part of that massive sales event. Do keep an eye on Jelly Deals and we’ll ensure you’re up to date with all the latest offers.
