When Is Amazon Prime Day 2020?

Amazon Prime Day has finally been confirmed for 2020, and it’s coming on 13th-14th October 2020. The online retail giant’s annual sale has become a staple of the shopping calendar to rival Black Friday and the January sales, offering countless discounts on all manner of products.

Below, we’ve listed all the details you’ll need to know, including dates, deals and details, so when those hectic couple of days roll around you’re more prepared than ever!

When is Amazon Prime Day 2020?

Amazon Prime Day is scheduled for the 13th-14th October 2020, later than the usual July period as a result of the current global difficulty in the wake of COVID-19. However, it is confirmed to be coming at last, bringing with it numerous discounts, deals and sales on hundreds of products to those who happen to have an Amazon Prime membership.

Specifically, Amazon Prime Day lasts for about 48 hours. It starts on the 13th October at 00:01 in the morning and lasts until 23:59 on the 14th, giving customers two days to find all the deals and offers they’ve been looking for.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Sort of like a Black Friday in July, Amazon Prime Day 2020 is a 48-hour sale celebration where Amazon slashes the prices of a lot of its stock. This includes Amazon brand items like the Kindle and Echo, as well as plenty of third party stock in pretty much any category imaginable. In fact, Amazon products, in particular, will have exclusive deals attached them during Amazon Prime Day, so those who like the idea of Echo Dots, Fire TVs and Alexas will be set to go.

Most Prime Day items will be on sale for the entirety of the event, but there are also Lightning Deals for exclusive items, or for those sale items at an even lower price. Lightning Deals are for a limited time with limited stock, so if there’s something you have your eye on you’ll need to be ready to buy it!

Do I need to be an Amazon Prime member?

Yes, you do! While most Amazon deals only offer a few hours advantage for Prime users, Prime Day 2020 requires you to be an Amazon Prime member to actually participate.

The good news is that, if you haven’t done so in the past, you can sign up for a one-month Amazon Prime free trial to take advantage of the deals. You can do that here at Amazon UK or Amazon US. Selecting the free trial is basically the no-lose option – not only will you not have to pay anything, but you’ll also get discounts on hundreds of products.

If you have already used the free trial, though, an Amazon Prime membership will cost you £79/$99 for a year or £7.99/$10.99 a month. Keep an eye out for a discount on a Prime membership during the event, too!

Aside from the Prime Day deals, you’ll also get access to free one-day shipping, Prime Video and Music, Twitch Prime, and more. If you shop at Amazon even somewhat regularly, grabbing Amazon Prime for the year will be worth the price.

For students, you can sign up for a six-month free trial of Prime and get a 50% discount on membership when the trial expires.

Are there any early Amazon Prime Day deals?

Yes! Alongside the announcement of the date for this year’s Amazon Prime Day, the mega-retailer also announced a couple of early Prime Day deals. These are available to order now and will be live throughout the run-up to the big day on 13th October. Here are the offers you can get right now!

New deals are added to the Amazon Prime day hub page all the time. However, be sure to follow the Jelly Deals Twitter account for all the latest deals as and when they’re added over the coming weeks and throughout Amazon Prime Day itself!

What other Amazon Prime Day 2020 deals can we expect?

Prime Day is usually when the biggest discounts can be found on Amazon Devices – first and foremost. That means if you’re after a new Kindle, Echo or Fire tablet then you’re in luck. The Amazon Prime Day sales are when these devices are given their biggest discounts at any time of the year. Even more so than Black Friday and Christmas!

Next to that, you’ll find basically anything and everything reduced. It’s a particularly good time for tech. Expect discounts on TVs, headphones, fitness trackers, smart lighting, PC components, homewares, vacuum cleaners and so much more.

We always have an eye out for a good gaming deal as well. You might see a few particularly good Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One bundles up for grabs. Even more so with the PS5 and Xbox Series X due for release later this year. Amazon has confirmed that Nintendo and Sony will both feature during Prime Day, so take that as a good sign for some console or game offers!

As soon as we get a clearer idea of the offers available for Amazon Prime Day 2020, you’ll be able to find them here first. You’ll also be able to receive regular updates by giving us a follow at Jelly Deals on Twitter.

Will other retailers have Prime Day deals?

While Prime Day remains an event hosted by Amazon, other retailers now look to capitalise on the increased spending habits during this time by running their own competing sales.

We’ve seen this become more widespread over recent years. It happens more in the US, where the likes of Best Buy, Walmart and Target run their own versions of Prime Day. Of course, all the competition can only benefit us as store strive to secure our cash.

What that means is you can sometimes look elsewhere for a better bargain. Of course, Amazon will have its own offers and exclusive Lightning Deals, but that doesn’t mean other retailers are only offering rubbish. Definitely do keep an eye out during Prime Day for these hidden deals. We’ll add any of the good ones we spot to this page, too!

And that should be just about everything you need to be ready to Amazon Prime Day 2020 right now. With so much still up in the air and the disruption from the coronavirus pandemic unlikely to end soon, all this could change at a moment’s notice.
