We’re getting close to that time of the year again – time for Amazon Prime Day 2020! The 48-hour sales event (yep, we know, that’s two days) is sure to bombard you with sales upon sales, to the point that it may be overwhelming. But, we’ll help you out by picking out the best deals and putting them in one easy to read place. Here’s everything you need to know about Prime Day 2020!
The most important thing to know right now, though, is that we fully expect a delay to Prime Day until later in the year. The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating effect in many areas of our lives. For retailers, it has led to supply chain issues and increased demand. With all of that going on, Amazon may struggle to hold a massive sales event so soon after the peak.
Until there’s more concrete info, we’ll be sure to bring you all the latest Prime Day 2020 updates right here. And then when the event begins proper, we’ll don our bargain hunting caps to bring you all the best Prime Day deals.
When is Amazon Prime Day 2020?
There’s no planned date yet for Amazon Prime Day 2020. Going by recent reports from the Wall Street Journal, we expect Prime Day will be delayed to September. Chances are it’ll be earlier in the month to put some distance between it and Black Friday in November – but that’s just us speculating.
In previous years, Prime Day has always fallen in the middle of July. However, it’s almost guaranteed that this year will be very different due to the coronavirus pandemic. As soon as we hear an official announcement from Amazon, we’ll be sure to update you right here and on the Jelly Deals Twitter account.
What is Prime Day 2020?
Sort of like a Black Friday in July, Amazon Prime Day 2020 is a 48-hour sale celebration where Amazon slashes the prices of a lot of its stock. This includes Amazon brand items like the Kindle and Echo, as well as plenty of third party stock in pretty much any category imaginable.
Most Prime Day items will be on sale for the entirety of the event, but there are also Lightning Deals for exclusive items, or for those sale items at an even lower price. Lightning Deals are for a limited time with limited stock, so if there’s something you have your eye on you’ll need to be ready to buy it!
Do I need to be an Amazon Prime member?
Yes, you do! While most Amazon deals only offer a few hours advantage for Prime users, Prime Day 2020 requires you to be an Amazon Prime member to actually participate.
The good news is that, if you haven’t done so in the past, you can sign up for a one-month Amazon Prime free trial to take advantage of the deals while they’re live. You can do that here at Amazon UK or Amazon US.
If you have already used the free trial, though, an Amazon Prime membership will cost you £79/$99 for a year or £7.99/$10.99 a month. Keep an eye out for a discount on a Prime membership during the event, too!
Aside from the Prime Day deals, you’ll also get access to free one-day shipping, Prime Video and Music, Twitch Prime, and more. If you shop at Amazon even somewhat regularly, grabbing Amazon Prime for the year will be worth the price.
For students, you can sign up for a six-month free trial of Prime and get a 50% discount on membership when the trial expires.
What Amazon Prime Day 2020 deals can we expect?
Prime Day is usually when the biggest discounts can be found on Amazon Devices – first and foremost. That means if you’re after a new Kindle, Echo or Fire tablet then you’re in luck. The Amazon Prime Day sales are when these devices are given their biggest discounts at any time of the year. Even more so than Black Friday and Christmas!
Next to that, you’ll find basically anything and everything reduced. It’s a particularly good time for tech. Expect discounts on TVs, headphones, fitness trackers, smart lighting, PC components, homewares, vacuum cleaners and so much more.
We always have an eye out for a good gaming deal as well. You might see a few particularly good Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One bundles up for grabs. Even more so with the PS5 and Xbox Series X due for release later this year. The recent increase in demand and supply chain difficulties may cause stock issues for these manufacturers, though.
As soon as we get a clearer idea of the offers available for Amazon Prime Day 2020, you’ll be able to find them here first. You’ll also be able to receive regular updates by giving us a follow at Jelly Deals on Twitter.
Will other retailers have Prime Day deals?
While Prime Day remains an event hosted by Amazon, other retailers now look to capitalise on the increased spending habits during this time by running their own competing sales.
We’ve seen this become more widespread over recent years. It happens more in the US, where the likes of Best Buy, Walmart and Target run their own versions of Prime Day. Of course, all the competition can only benefit us as store strive to secure our cash.
What that means is you can sometimes look elsewhere for a better bargain. Of course, Amazon will have its own offers and exclusive Lightning Deals, but that doesn’t mean other retailers are only offering rubbish. Definitely do keep an eye out during Prime Day for these hidden deals. We’ll add any of the good ones we spot to this page, too!
And that should be just about everything you need to be ready to Amazon Prime Day 2020 right now. With so much still up in the air and the disruption from the coronavirus pandemic unlikely to end soon, all this could change at a moment’s notice. You’ll always be able to find the latest info right here.
