Best Nintendo Switch deals: consoles, accessories, amiibo and more

Supply for the Nintendo Switch isn’t as scarce as the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5, but the overwhelming demand for the console during the coronavirus pandemic has resulted in many retailers offering limited stock, which can make it difficult to find some of the best Nintendo Switch deals.

As a result of this limited supply, there haven’t been any significant price drops in recent months. That said, there are still plenty of console bundles, video games and peripherals available at a decent price if you know where to look.

To help you get the most out of your money, we’ve put together the ultimate buyer’s guide covering the hottest Nintendo switch deals – including console bundles, games and accessories, as well as the best places to buy them.

Best Nintendo Switch console deals

If you don’t already own a Nintendo Switch, it’s worth asking yourself which version of the console you want. The core Nintendo Switch model, which was re-released with an upgraded battery, comes with a dock that, in addition to charging the console, is also used to play games on your TV.

The core Nintendo Switch model’s biggest benefit is it doubles up as a portable handheld console simply by removing it from the charging dock. And as its controllers, known as Joy-Cons, are detachable, you can also make use of the flip-out stand on the back of the Switch to play multiplayer games on it without needing a TV or monitor.

The other version of the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch Lite, is a handheld console only. There’s no way to connect it to your TV and as the Joy-Con controllers can’t be detached, you won’t be able to accessorise it or play multiplayer games as easily. While both consoles support all of the same games, some gameplay sections that utilize the detachable Joy-Con controllers for gyro aiming will play out a little differently on the Switch Lite.

There’s a pretty significant price difference between the two consoles too, with the core model carrying an RRP of £279.99 and the Switch Lite at £199.99. You’ll need to weigh up the pros and cons of not playing on a big screen to work out which version of the Nintendo Switch is best suited for you or whoever it is you’re buying it for.

Best Nintendo Switch Games

Nintendo Switch games usually carry an RRP of £49.99 in the UK or $59.99 in the US, and first-party Nintendo titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Octopath Traveller are notorious for holding their price, which means there’s not much difference in price when it comes to buying the games brand-new or second-hand.

That said, there are some great deals at the moment that can save you more than 25% on some Nintendo Switch titles. Here’s our pick of the best.

The detachable Joy-Con controllers for the Nintendo Switch have loads of colour variations, but if you prefer the feel of a standard controller, we’d recommend picking up a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller or one of the re-released Gamecube controllers. You really can’t play Smash Bros. Ultimate properly without one.

We’ve got some alternative Nintendo Switch controller options here, too.

Best Nintendo Switch SD card deals

The official 128GB SanDisk Nintendo Switch SD card

Considering the massive choice of digital games available to download from the Nintendo eStore and the Nintendo Switch’s rather paltry internal storage of 32GB, you’re gonna need a memory card sooner or later.

The Nintendo Switch supports various microSD cards, which means you can (technically) upgrade the max memory storage of your console to a massive 2TB. But let’s be honest, it’s unlikely you’re ever gonna need an SD card that big, and terabyte cards are still horribly overpriced, and likely will be for some time until they become standardised.

Tech retailers regularly run discounts on microSD cards, so you should check in with your favourite retailers to see what the latest offers are. SanDisk microSD cards tend to work out the cheapest, and while Nintendo has officially licensed microSD cards available, we’d recommend avoiding these, as you’re essentially paying extra for a nicely designed card that’s going to be trapped inside the console anyway.

Here are the cheapest deals we could find on microSD cards for the Nintendo Switch at the time of writing. We’d also recommend checking out our full rundown on the best microSD cards for the Nintendo Switch, which includes set-up instructions and other useful information.

Best places to buy amiibo

A selection of Nintendo amiibo

There are so many Nintendo amiibo figures available it can be hard to keep track of them. Some are much rarer than others, and can easily triple or quadruple in price once they sell out (which happens often).

Whether you’re buying amiibo figures to unlock new features in Nintendo games such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, or simply looking to build a collection of your favourite Nintendo characters, we’d recommend regularly checking the Nintendo Official UK Store for stock updates.

This is the easiest place to grab rare Nintendo amiibo at RRP, but we’d also recommend checking out the deals that we’ve found below, which offer a decent discount on select amiibo figures. We also have a page on all the Animal Crossing amiibo should you be looking for something specific from that series.

Best Nintendo Switch Online membership deals

The Nintendo Switch Online logo

If you’ve got a Nintendo Switch Online membership, you can access an impressive back catalogue of NES and SNES games for free, in addition to accessing multiplayer services on select titles.

With an RRP of just £17.99 or $19.99 for a 12-month membership, it’s certainly a lot cheaper than an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PlayStation Plus membership, but you can get the cost down even more if you don’t buy your subscription directly from Nintendo.

Here are the best deals at the time of writing. If the 12-month subscriptions aren’t your thing, you should head over to our Switch Online membership deals page which has some great offers on family and 3-month subscriptions.
